‘Kinnor’ is the actual Hebrew name for the Harp in the Bible. This CD is the first in a series of four CDs featuring Christian Catholic music taken from the Maltese popular hymnal. This CD focuses on the music of Ordinary time of the liturgical year. All transcriptions were adapted for solo harp by Jacob Portelli.
This project was inspired following the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in Malta in 2020. During this lockdown, religious services were confined to online streaming, and Jacob Portelli was requested by the Curia of the Archdiocese of Malta to enrich daily mass performing on his harp.
This festive album featuring both Harp and Flute. Together with the talented flutist, Fiorella Camilleri we have prepared this new collection with the intention that half of the proceedings will go to DAR BJORN.
‘Nevel’ is an ancient Hebrew name for a stringed instrument frequently mentioned in the Old Testament, a predecessor of today’s Harp. The Greeks translated the name to ‘Nabla’. This album is the second in a series of four albums featuring mainly Maltese Christian Catholic music. Nevel is a collection of religious music for the Lenten times. The fifirst half presents music from the Maltese Lent hymnal sung during the fourty days of personal renewal. The second half then delves into the world of Gregorian Chants for Holy Week.
In this album, the multi-instrumental Jacob Portelli plays three instruments: the concert pedal harp (Henriette), the Psalter (Agatha), and the Cello (Giorgio). All musical transcriptions were adapted to these instruments by the artist himself.
